About the artist

Tomal has depicted human traits, emotions or intentions, qualities through animals like cats, roosters, crows and goats. The animals including each represent a different human trait. The artist reveals the innate tendency of human psychology, characteristics and qualities in his symbolic artworks. For example, the crow symbolises curiosity, alertness and contemplation, cat symbolises softness, affiliation and tenderness, rooster symbolises subtlety and passion for observation and goat symbolises spirit for adventure. The behaviors of animals vary from artwork to artwork. In some artworks the cats appear lazy while others show the felines as alert and curious animals. A number of displayed pen and ink on paper drawings show flock of goats grazing in open fields and climbing steep hill slopes. Most of his artworks depict the animals in black and white. However, Tomal, in his aquatint prints of roosters, has used colours, mainly shades of yellow and light green.
