Monsur Ul Karim is an artist whose artworks have added new dimension in the arts world of Bangladesh. He is one of the contemporary artists of Bangladesh achieving prominence. Monsur Ul Karim is one of those fifteen famous artists whose works were showcased in the Ninth Asia biennial Art Exhibition held in the Art Gallery in 1999. The nature of Bangladesh and the aesthetic expression of human beings are the characteristics of his creations. His semi abstract compositions with loosely drawn figures, organic and free flowing lines, and child-like drawings and scribbles powerfully evoke the landscape of riverine and rural Bangladesh. Monsurul Karim was born in Rajbari, Bangladesh, in 1950. He completed BFA from the Institute of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka, in 1972, and did his master’s from University of Chittagong in 1974. Karim received the Ekushey Padak in 2009. Notable among his honours are the Grand Award in the 8th Indian Triennial International, New Delhi, 1994 and the Grand Award in the 6th Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh, Dhaka, 1993. Karim retired as Professor, Institute of Fine Arts, University of Chittagong. He now lives and works in Rainagar, Rajbari, where he has set up an art space for students and young artists.

Using Materials:

Step 1: To protect against moisture, wrap the artwork with plastic sheeting/poly wrap or put it inside a heavy plastic bag. Use tape to seal all areas where water can enter and cause damage.

Step 2: Wrap the entire work with bubble wrap for a protective padding. Using tape to secure it shut.

Step 3: Place the bubble wrap-covered painting into a corrugated box. Fill the empty space with enough wadded/shredded paper to ensure that the artwork doesn’t shift during transit.

Step 4: Use the packing tape to seal the box.

Step 5: Affix the delivery address to the package and put clear tape over the label so it doesn’t get removed during handling.


Tube packaging for canvas or flat painting on paper/board
Using Materials:
  • Bubble wrap
  • Packaging tape
  • Cardboard roll

Step 1: Sandwich your canvas between two layers of acid free archival paper. Make sure that the canvas is completely covered by the paper.

Step 2: Roll the paper-covered artwork—paint side outward—around the smaller tube to provide inner support.

Step 3: Next, roll a layer of bubble wrap around the artwork for padding and to seal out moisture. Seal completely with tape.

Step 4: Place this tube within the outer mailing tube. Fill extra space at the ends with extra bubble wrap/ wadded/shredded paper. Place the end caps on and seal them shut with packing tape.

Step 5: Affix the delivery address to the package and put clear tape over the label so it doesn’t get removed during handling.
